CIN helps improve people’s living condition by transforming their mud huts into brick houses or adding roofs to provide shelter, privacy and decency to their lives.
CIN’s policy is to collaborate with local suppliers to ensure job opportunities for local skills (such as workers, builders, electricians…etc). When possible, CIN utilises household members (age 16 and above) to help with the construction and the development processes. This approach guarantees a lower labour cost, an efficient distribution of resources, and a true sense of ownership of ones house.
Since its establishment in 2010, CIN has constructed and developed 3,500 houses and 300 roofs at a total cost of over £5,000,000. The average cost of each house is £5,000 (range £4,500 – £5,500) and the average cost of each roof is £2,000 (range £1,800 – £2,200). This reduced development cost was only possible through collaborations with local suppliers who donate some of the raw materials (such as bricks and steel) either free of charge or at a hugely subsidised rate.
CIN currently works in different areas in upper Egypt, for example, the villages of Abnoub, El-Fath, Tahta, El-Baliana, Temma, Sohag, Banimazar, Samalout and El-Flaheen.
